Touristic Sustainability During your stay at Manuel Antonio, we invite you to become aware and be part of the change that helps preserve the environment. In Costa Rica there is the Certificate for Sustainable Tourism Program - CST –which is a program of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), designed to differentiate tourism companies according to the degree to which its operation is closer to a model of sustainability, as the management of natural, cultural and social resources. Iguana Tours is proud to participate voluntarily in said program and we have included it as part of our Sustainable Tourism Policy. In this manner we make sure that our touristic activities is respectful towards the environment, the local culture as well as the values of Manuel Antonio and Quepos which allows the enjoyment of a positive exchange of experiences between residents and visitors. In such a manner, part of our Quality Policy, Iguana Tours promises to maintain renewable services as well as bringing the best experience to the guest.

Our sustainable practices are as follows:

  • Hot water provided in each room is generated from leftover energy from the air conditioning units.
  • All our cleaning products are environmentally friendly.
  • The amenities within the room such as soap, shampoo and lotion are biodegradable and environmentally friendly. Even their containers are biodegradable and deteriorate in Little time.
  • Washing chemicals are biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
  • The Company maintains a responsible waste management which separates solid waste between recyclables, paper, cardboard, aluminum, glass, and plastic.
  • As a Company we are constantly involved in sustainability chats regarding tourism, recycling, and tree planting.
  • All staff is trained in first aid and understands the policy in case of any emergency.
  • We maintain a protected land of more than 10 hectares with both primary and secondary rainforest trees.
  • We partner with local schools, lifeguards, touristic police and other local groups with donations and labor incentives.
  • People that we contract for festival for events are locals of the community.
  • We actively implement energy and water saving measures in our offices.
  • Our architecture allows for the maximum use of natural light, limiting electricity used. We also encourage guests to turn off lights when not in use.
  • We take advantage of the suns energy to dry towels and laundry whenever possible.
  • We offer guests opportunities to participate in conservation and development of the socio economic aspects of the nearby communities.
  • We follow the laws and policies placed by the tourist committee referring to the environment, wildlife, archeological land as well as security.
  • Promoting Costa Rican traditions and customs, traditional food consumption and domestic crafts. In the restaurant menu you will find dishes with letter “L” brackets, which means it is a local or traditional country food.
  • Our transport units have the proper permits and insurance.
  • The tours that we sponsor maintain our same values and respect both the guests and the environment.
